Jennifer,

What a little munchkin in that shot! Precious guy.

I found this site for tonight, http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2432852/fear_of_flying_is_just_a_state_of_mind.html?cat=16.
Its not the best, but even just reading it made me feel calmer for you!!

Also- I went to sign my blog comment yesterday with my usual sign off, “xo, J” but decided not to because I didn’t know if we were at xo level. I didn’t notice (somehow!) until just now that you sign your posts that way! Considering we both sign off the same way..I think we’re definitely at XO level. Enjoy the workshop, and returning to your fam :)

xo,
J

Callien Holleran - February 16, 2010 - 9:30 am

I’m sure you have learned some unforgetable things I can’t wait to see how you apply it in your photos.

Mindy - February 16, 2010 - 8:13 am

I know you’re having fun. It’s always fun to learn new and exciting things about what your passion is. Your passion definitely shines through. I love today’s picture. We’ll talk more when you get back.

It’s Monday and I’m heading down to see Jasmine * and meet 19 other photogs and we are going to be learning from one of the best in the biz.  I will let you in on a little secret.  I do not like to fly, period.  It’s one thing to be away from my family,...

Paola - February 15, 2010 - 11:05 pm

I bet after going to J*’s workshop, the flight was definitely worth it! How did it go? The flight and the workshop? I forgot to mention how much I like your new blog’s home. Wonderful job!!

Samantha - February 15, 2010 - 10:05 pm

I’m totally loving this shot! And like Tricia says, stay positive! It makes a world of difference! :-) Can’t wait for you to announce the contest winner!! Woot woot!

Barbara Bauernschmitt - February 15, 2010 - 7:30 pm

That’s so awesome that you get to meet Jasmine Star! The flight will be all worth it! I hope I can meet her too someday.
BTW making your own frame in a picture is one of my favorites. Well, I guess every picture is your own frame as a photographer, but getting in tight and emphasizing only parts of a body creates such a powerful effect! Love it!

Lara Rios - February 15, 2010 - 2:34 pm

Hahahaha that’s is so funny because for years I hated flying too. I had a very bad and scary experience in a PanAm (remember that airline?) ages ago, it went down in the middle of the flight, when we were eating and all the food flew away over us, it lasted many seconds, like I don’t know 15 seconds but very hard and it happened three times, one after the other. After that, and for years, I had to take all kinds of pills to get into airplanes because what I had was PANIC!!! Eventually, after realizing that all this panic was only in my mind, the fear went away, completely. I tried to get rational, you know? And I always repeat to myself, there are way more car accidents every day than airplane crashes; actually my dad says it’s the safest way of transportation! So Fear no more my friend, because on that, I’m with you too!

See you tomorrow, I’m very excited to meet you after a week of daily communication. It was a GREAT idea!
Take care,
Lara

Jessie - February 15, 2010 - 2:23 pm

Hi Jennifer!

I hope by now you have made it to the workshop! That means half the flying is over with! Wahoo. Having read practically all of your blog yesterday I feel we are old friends. Have a wonderful time With Jasmine*. The workshop is going to be so amazing. And to get you through your flight back, think of those three adorable, smiling faces waiting for you at home :)

ashleigh - February 15, 2010 - 2:12 pm

see you tonite girl!!!!!! sooooooo excited!!! holllllllla :)

Melanie Doyle - February 15, 2010 - 1:48 pm

You are doing so awesome with your photography! I know what you mean about planes; I’m not a fan either! Just plug into some music or a movie for distraction and you will be fine. Breathe, and enjoy the time to nurish your talent!

John Leocadio - February 15, 2010 - 1:10 pm

Hope to see you at dinner tonight!! Tomorrow’s gonna be awesome!!

Mindy - February 15, 2010 - 1:03 pm

Just take a deep breath. I just did the exact thing. Went to Phoenix and back with out my family. I do those sudoko puzzles from the time I sit down till the time I get off the plane. It keeps my mind off things. Also think of all of the fun things your going to learn. Most importantly HAVE FUN!!!!!

-brittany- - February 15, 2010 - 12:59 pm

Excited to meet you! Hope your flight is extra smooth!!

Jihan Cerda - February 15, 2010 - 11:37 am

Have fun and best wishes!!

Peter Davis - February 15, 2010 - 9:44 am

I’m sure you will do great! Take lots of good magazines to keep you distracted. At least it’s a pretty short flight, right? Have a great time!

Zoe - February 15, 2010 - 9:33 am

Quick flight, so hang in there – you’re going to have a blast at the workshop – how exciting! Are those your little ones in the photo? I love that photo, so cute. Well have fun and I can’t wait to read all about it this week :)

Nicole Conway - February 15, 2010 - 9:27 am

You should have told me, I’d have gone with you!!!! Have a great time!!!!

Callien Holleran - February 15, 2010 - 8:43 am

Tricia Whitmer - February 15, 2010 - 7:51 am

Ahhh…so sorry to hear about your fear! Keep focusing on the positives about your destination and remember that fear is the opposite of faith!!! Have a great time. Jasmine is fantastic, and has the gift of making everyone so comfortable! Have a BALL!

Thank you for giving back to the community. Your show it site rocks.

Sue McFarland - February 11, 2010 - 5:31 pm

What an absolutely wonderful photo! So gorgeous….love the sky! The weather here in NC is very cold. Off and on freezing temps with ice and snow flurries about every other day right now. Have a great evening!

Randy P - February 11, 2010 - 5:17 pm

I am a huge Smugmug Pro user and just now discovered Shotitfast and would love to use it.

As a brand new photographer, It would be nice to have my first year taken care of (so to speak) so I can focus more on learning and purchasing camera gear.

Thanks,
Randy

Kent Meireis - February 11, 2010 - 3:47 pm

Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for sharing your gift of a showit site. I’m due for a new website this winter. The weather here in Denver is seasonally warm and sunny today.
Cheers, Kent

Laurie - February 11, 2010 - 2:31 pm

Weather in my part of the world? Snowy with a side of power outages! lol. Which is why I’m doubly excited to meet you out in CA in just a few SHORT days! Oh, and Vampire Diaries?…now you’re speaking my love language! ;)

Mindy - February 11, 2010 - 2:28 pm

Already miss Sacramento. Went to Phoenix to visit my dad and all me and my mom are doing is eating valentines candy. Hopefully my pants will fit for the ride home :) Just love the sky in this picture, so beautiful just after it rains.

Tricia Whitmer - February 11, 2010 - 11:16 am

Zoe - February 11, 2010 - 10:59 am

That’s a great photo! We had a day like that in the Bay Area on Sunday, where the rain clouds dissapeared for a little while and we got to play outside. Adam was thrilled –> http://babydesouky.blogspot.com/2010/02/spring-sunday.html

Callien Holleran - February 11, 2010 - 8:50 am

The weather has been really nice the past few days I have really enjoyed it.

{Roseville, Sacramento Family Photographer} Family Portraits

When I started my photography business I held photosessions with a lot of families.  Family’s with kids of different ages.  It was a challenge for me at first because you have to concentrate on more than two people and that’s not always easy.  Usually the mother will say, “Don’t...

Love the slide show with the thumbnail pictures. Your pictures are wonderful.

Karen - February 10, 2010 - 9:36 pm

Hi Jennifer,

Here I am submitting my comment. Actually, just wanted to say hi and I love reading your blog. Please give the kids a big hug from Scott and I.

Karen

Tracy Laulhere - February 10, 2010 - 8:55 pm

It’s funny … I am so this way when it’s my kids being photographed. I hear the words and the tone coming out of my mouth and actually wish I could stop! Especially when the best photos I take of them are when I keep my mouth shut and just let them be!

Nicole Conway - February 10, 2010 - 8:08 pm

Dropping in to say hello, me me pick me!!!

missys - February 10, 2010 - 5:31 pm

great photos!!

Mindy - February 10, 2010 - 5:18 pm

I think you just spent a moment in my life. I worry about way too much. I need to let you just work your photographic magic and I will take a little walk while you do it.

Sue McFarland - February 10, 2010 - 2:41 pm

What a gorgeous family. Sweet photo of them. Families are a bit challenging and it is very interesting to hear how you have coped..thanks for sharing :)

Jaycie Speck - February 10, 2010 - 2:01 pm

I agree =) the candid, silly pictures are always the best anyways (like the picture you took of me jumping in the air). People aren’t always totally in sync and happy all at the same time so its nice to capture all the moments.

Jihan Cerda - February 10, 2010 - 1:33 pm

I felt the same way. And sometimes you just have to hold the shutter down to ensure you will capture the right photo (Everyone smiling, looking at the camera at the same time, etc.), especially since that is what many parents want. But candid is great as well since you capture the emotion within the photo.

ashleigh - February 10, 2010 - 12:47 pm

what beautiful families and stunning images!!! you have such a gift for capturing the love these families share! great work!

Anna Kim - February 10, 2010 - 11:34 am

Thanks for this helpful post. I find family portraits to be challenging at times and sometimes I just want to take a zen moment myself. LOL!

cori derksen - February 10, 2010 - 11:23 am

love the old car shot! :)

Callien Holleran - February 10, 2010 - 10:19 am

I love the way you make the families look natural and candid.

Zoe - February 10, 2010 - 9:50 am

That’s so true! We had a family portrait session done this fall and my usually happy smiley boy was so straight faced. I think we all put too much pressure on getting the perfect shot – I think we would have been much happier with a less formal/fun family photo shoot in a more natural environment.

Tricia Whitmer - February 10, 2010 - 9:21 am

You couldn’t have said it any better! It has nothing to do with the perfect outfit, perfect makeup or perfect KIDS!!! It is about the bond and love that you all share and capturing that today for all to remember tomorrow! Nicely done girlie!

Stacey S. - February 10, 2010 - 8:27 am

Very nicely put Jen! You do so well capturing those special memories! Beautiful!
